STEWBILEE's POOCH PARADE

Today was our annual Brunswick Stewbilee. We have Brunswick stew samplings from all kinds of different vendors. One little man was working feverishly at his table by himself, handing out samples, but there were no signs to indicate who he worked for. When I asked, he said, "Myself!" Turns out he's running for Clerk of Court next year! His stew was pretty good, but I think he neede better advertising around his table if he wants to get any votes.

There are also other activities: booths selling various things from cupcakes to jewelry, music from several bands during the day, a classic car show, children's activities, and -- my favorite! -- the Pooch Parade. I'll go into the cars next week but today we'll focus on the doggies!

Here are a couple. Not sure what they're supposed to be, but one of them looks like he's in his pajamas.

This sweet mastiff wore a wig and tutu. She won a prize for best big dog costume.

And here we have a clown with her yellow jacket. I thought she would have gotten a prize but was evidently beat out by a little dog with a cat on his back! Wish I could have got a picture of that but I never did see it.

And here we have a beekeeper, though you can't see him very well since he's standing behind his two bumblebees. Keeping them from escaping, no doubt.

You can't see the sweet little puppy very well, but the lady in red holding him is a volunteer. He wore a red bandana with ADOPT ME on it as he frolicked around. Several people were petting him so I hope he finds someone to take him home.

And the young people in yellow standing in front of the band, are members of the Boys and Girls Club. They volunteered to be judges for the Pooch Parade and did a fine job. I have no idea how they picked the winners because there were too many delightful costumes for me to show here. But the kids did finally decide, and then huddled around each winner and petted it and cooed over it.

I couldn't believe all the cutie pies and how well-behaved they were! Not a single fight or even a threatening grrr!

MORNING WALK

So my guy and I were walking and to our pleasure met a lady with two dogs. To our amusement, a cat seemed to be leading the way. We found out that, indeed, the cat was with them.

The dogs were cute little things. The white one is fifteen and the other, only three. I didn't ask about the cat but I should have.

It seems that whenever Diane walks the dogs, her cat goes with them. I guess the cat feels she has to keep an eye on them, like a guard cat or something. Or maybe she just goes along to make sure they behave.

Anyway, the cat, being a cat, does not need a leash. She knows perfectly well what her job is.

LAST OF THE STEWBILEE

And these are the last few pix from the Brunswick Stewbilee we enjoyed a week ago! We got there early so most of these were taken before the crowds came in.

This one shows the end of the booths set up. The others turn back around to the left but you can't see them here. The river is behind, as you can see from the ship masts in the background.

These are the necessaries for the crowd. There was a cropdusting plane going back and forth over them. I was trying to take its picture but naturally missed it.

This is a long view to the Visitor Center building where the bands played. To the right is the pavilion where the stew tasting started. Then tents set set up to house the rest of them but they're out of sight.

And here is another long view showing one of the bands on the right corner: Backstreet Boulevard.

 Another band: Pier Pressure

One more pic of the dogs getting ready for the parade. The white dog has on a green collar to match its owner in the mermaid costume. Not sure about the little dog in pink.

One last look at the event sign!

And that's all I'll blog about this year's Stewbilee! I promise!

STEWBILEE CONTINUED

Continuing raving about the Stewbilee event:

The highlight, as far as I'm concerned, was the Pooch Parade. I don't know how people got their dogs to behave so well. I don't even know how they persuaded their dogs to dress up! I've never owned a dog that amenable!

These are just a few of the dogs participating. I couldn't get pix of all of them.

Here, you can't see the shirt very well, but this doggie is dressed up as a Georgia Bulldog.

Not sure what this costume is -- Pippi Longstocking maybe? -- but s/he and owner got the prize for best lookalikes.

Here we have a ballerina. You can just see the tutu behind the owner's, er, backside.

Snow White is being hauled in comfort along with the doggie playing the part of dwarf Sleepy.

This must represent some kind of astral doggie. Nice paint job.

These look like a couple of princesses.

One of my faves... the dog in the cookie box!

And finally, a witch. Just in time for Halloween. Um, I didn't notice the upper doggie squatting till later. Guess s/he couldn't hold it.

And a good time was had by all!

STEWBILEE

Our town on the mainland had their annual stewbilee this past Saturday. Besides the Brunswick stew tastings, they had arts and crafts and games for the kids, a few vendors, an old/classic car/truck exhibition and a Pooch Parade!!! My photos didn't turn out too well but we had a great time! Here are some of the doggies:

This one was dressed as a devil.

This one was a ladybug, as was her owner.

This was my favorite! A shepherd disguised as a sheep!

And this one wore a tutu as did her owner. They won the grand prize, I believe, but unfortunately I couldn't get a good shot. They went by too fast!
