CANDY

I don't cook except for making candy. I make the old-fashioned kind. Like fudge:

And divinity:

And pralines:

And my favorite that my mother used to make when I was a kid, peanut butter candy:

Tomorrow I get to cut them and parcel them out. It's hard to know who eats candy and who doesn't nowadays but I've never had anyone refuse it. My petsitter gets a package and also the vet's office for their loving care of my sweet cats. Then my critique partners and some other friends.

I try to give it all away--yes, I do, I really do!--but somehow there always seem to be a few pieces left over.

Guess they'll take care of those pounds I've struggled to lose.

FRIEND VISIT

Had an old friend from childhood visit us this weekend. It was dreary outside, but we took the time to catch up on families, people we used to know, and our lives now. Not much nostalgia because I think we both feel, that while it's nice to look back, the present moment is what matters. So we must make the most of it.

One thing is true: Old friendships are the best kind!

FRIENDS

Aren't friends grand?

Just had a visit from an old friend I hadn't seen since last year. She's the kind you see every year or so but can still pick up the threads when you meet again as if you'd been together the day before.

Those are the best friends to have.

Don't have many, but I cherish them!

Friend's Ebook Out Today

Gonna promote a friend's writing today.

Nan D. Arnold's second ebook, PESTO PACKING MAMA, comes out today.

It's a light entertaining read from Champagne Books. Nan calls her work Quirky Fiction for Boomers. I think it's more like hen lit. She's one of those strange people I talked about in an earlier post, but a real doll in spite of it.

You can visit her site by following the link on this blog. She's also being interviewed June 22 at http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/board/

Drop in if you get a chance!

Old Friends

What's the old saying? Old friends are the best ones?

That's old as in an old friendship, not people who are old.

I think it's true. New friends see your good side and don't realize you can be an opinionated grouch. But those friends who've hung around with you for years and years know all about your crabbiness. Also your ambitions, fears, idiosyncrasies and family problems.

But there's no question of blackmail. You know all that about them, too.

So here's to you, all my old friends! May we continue to be old friends forever.
