You know the type of friends I'm talking about. The ones who knew you when. The ones who know about your ill tempers and your bad habits. The ones who sympathized during the rough patches and laughed with you during the good times. The ones you can meet up with every few years and pick right up where you left off.

The best kind of friends. And I think they almost always have to be old friends because the others kind of drop by the wayside, either from lack of attention or maybe the connection was never that great to begin with.

We had lunch with our old friends today. Just an hour or so but they're still easy to talk to and still easy to be with. We miss them already.

Old friends are really the best ones, aren't they?

And darn it, I was so happy to see them, I didn't even get a picture!

  1. I've kept my current circle of friends since we started out in university. Some of us are graduate students; others of us have moved on professionally, but we're still close.

At least until kids start entering the picture!

    1. Yeah, then you'll find some of them drop by the wayside. It's a time thing and is inevitable. But there'll always be some who stick.

  2. I think it's about not having to waste time developing a relationship when it's already there. Inside people they're still the 20 year old, the 30 year old, the 40 year old, as well as their current age. So they're sort of a way for us to relive our nostalgic past.

    1. Hee hee! A shame we don't look on the outside like we feel on the inside!
